“Draco Is Back”: Tom Felton to Reprise Iconic Role in Broadway’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

In a magical moment of nostalgia, Tom Felton is officially returning to the wizarding world. The actor, best known for his portrayal of Draco Malfoy in all eight Harry Potter films, will reprise his role on stage in the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Felton’s return marks a milestone for the franchise, making him the first original film cast member to join the award-winning stage adaptation. He’ll don Draco’s signature platinum-blond hair and black robes once again for a 19-week run at New York’s Lyric Theatre beginning November 11.

“It’s surreal to be stepping back into his shoes,” Felton said in a statement, calling it a “full-circle moment” in his life. “When I begin performances in Cursed Child this fall, I’ll also be the exact age Draco is in the play.”

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which first premiered in London’s West End in 2016, is set 19 years after the events of the original series. It follows Harry, Ron, Hermione—and yes, Draco—as they navigate parenthood while sending their own children off to Hogwarts.

Felton teased his return on Instagram with a dramatic video clip, slipping back into character with a wand in hand and a smirk on his face. “Scared, Potter?” he asked, echoing one of Draco’s most iconic lines. The video closed with a simple caption: “Draco is back.”

The play is currently the highest-grossing non-musical in Broadway history and has captivated over 10 million fans globally, with ongoing productions in London, Hamburg, Tokyo, and New York.

Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender expressed their excitement: “Tom’s return to Hogwarts bridges generations of fans and breathes new life into a beloved story.”

Since the end of the Harry Potter film saga in 2011, Felton has built a diverse career, including roles in Rise of the Planet of the Apes and his West End debut in 2:22 A Ghost Story. In 2022, he published a memoir titled Beyond the Wand, recounting his journey as a young actor growing up in the global spotlight.

Tickets for Felton’s run in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child go on general sale June 12, with a presale opening June 10.
